Twitter shuts down twttr, it’s experimental app

Twttr was launched in back in March last year as part of Twitter’s efforts to be more open and collaborative with their tests. Now they’ve announced that the app is being shut down and along with it, they’re removing the thread replies format that the app was key in driving.

Instagram fundraisers can now be published in feed

Instagram fundraisers will soon be able to share not for profit fundraisers directly into the Instagram feed. This change would extend the life of fundraisers which could increase the number of donations. Currently, fundraisers are only available in Stories or Live videos.

YouTube outlines new measures to combat hate speech

This week, YouTube has provided an update on how it’s looking to tackle hate speech on the platform, in order to provide a more welcoming environment for all users. As per YouTube, “Since its early days, YouTube has always strived to be a place where creators of all backgrounds can have a voice, find a community and even build a business, including many that may be underrepresented or might not otherwise have had a platform. We’re committed to supporting the diverse creator communities on YouTube and their continued success.”

Facebook is stepping up its efforts to remove COVID-19 vaccine misinformation

With the approval of the first COVID vaccine in the UK, Facebook has announced that it will step up its efforts to eliminate vaccine misinformation. As explained by Facebook, “Given the recent news that COVID-19 vaccines will soon be rolling out around the world, over the coming weeks we will start removing false claims about these vaccines that have been debunked by public health experts on Facebook and Instagram. This could include false claims about the safety, efficacy, ingredients or side effects of the vaccines.”

Reddit reports 52 million daily active users

This week, Reddit reported it averaged 52 million daily active users in October. This is a 44% year on year increase in active engagement. It may be smaller than other social media platforms but it does signal that Reddit is growing and shouldn’t be neglected by marketers.
